Prom: The Saga

It’s what almost everyone in high school looks forward to. It’s the pinnacle of Senior experiences, and if you’re an underclassman, it’s like getting an invite to The Oscars. Prom. It’s a big deal.

Now, let me start off by saying this is only my opinion of prom. I am sure that many other people had an amazing time and declared it the best night of their lives.

However, for me, it was pretty average. It was better than any of the dances at school, but compared to Junior Ring, prom was just “ehh”. It was fun, but it was not the greatest night of my life like some people make it out to be.

I think the problem for me was the entire schedule before prom. It was stressful, my feet were killing me, and I had to get my picture taken for three hours (something that I hate). It also did not help that there were about 50 parents wanting pictures and telling us how to pose when all I wanted to do was take a nap.

I was so worried about all of these things that could go wrong on the day of prom, that I did not even give myself time to be excited. That was a big mistake on my part, I wish I would have calmed down and enjoyed getting prepared.IMG_0002 - Copy

I do not know if, maybe if I relaxed a little, I would have had more fun, but I do know that I probably would not have started crying because my parents weren’t moving fast enough when I was trying to leave the house (I was freaking out, okay?).

What I am trying to say is: Do not get caught up in all of the pre-prom festivities. By worrying about all the things that could go wrong, you are taking away excitement from the actual event.

As I have said before, doing this will not guarantee your amazing time at prom. However, it will make you less stressed beforehand. By being less stressed, you are essentially making it easier to have a good time and dance the night away, which is what is important.
