Hill Hits Home with Volleyball
One word, three syllables. Volleyball.
Mia Hill is a sophomore with a fight for an ace on the volleyball court. From playing Varsity Mehlville to playing club, she has shown her skill in the hit of the ball. She has won awards while showing off her teamwork and leadership.
She started playing CYC when she was in the third grade and began to love it. She learned hitting to serving, and has done well at it.
“I loved it so much I wanted to take it to more of a competitive level, so I started parochial in sixth grade. I did that until eighth grade and thought I would try something even more competitive. I started my first year of club volleyball in eighth grade,” said Hill.
Her first club team was the South County Angels. She learned tons of skills from this team, and even met some of her best friends. Her coach, Mark Telly, supported her all the way when coming to volleyball. Mia loved every moment of her turn in club volleyball. She played for them for two years. This year she plays for a team called Vision.
“It’s my first year on the team and I have have learned so much already, and I’m excited to see what this year brings for us,” said Hill.
In addition, Mia described how excited she had been when she struck gold.
“My favorite win for club would have to be last year in Kansas City when we were seated first in our pool so we got to play very hard teams. These teams were very good and forced us to play at a very high intensity level. It’s by far the most exciting match I’ve ever played. In that game we accomplished so much that we got overall ninth place in nationals which was a huge accomplishment being put in the gold bracket.”
This obviously was a success in Mia’s book. Even though Hill didn’t start this volleyball year, she still has determination. She is ready to tackle more as it comes and show Mehlville High how she hits home with volleyball.
