Donuts Make a Difference

Many students may have seen or even used the new bike rack located outside the library.

Very few know where it came from.

The rack was donated to the school through funds from Paw’s and Peace.

Paw’s and Peace is a school club focused on raising awareness for a drug free campus and creating a positive and healthy environment for students.

Over the years, Paw’s and Peace has sold donuts on Friday mornings. The money they raise goes to different charities, events, and organizations.

“I really like putting the money back into the school,” said Officer Charlie Rodriguez, sponsor of Paw’s and Peace.

He has used the money made from donuts to pay for many things, ranging from the flags hanging in the classrooms, the signs used to promote the homecoming parade, and even giving some to the Ali Hayes fund.

Paw’s and Peace is looking forward to raising more money to donate back to the school.

“I help pay for students who many not have lunch money, or if someone in the club can’t afford some of the gear, we use the money to help pay for it,” said Rodriguez.

In the future, the club hopes to have a mural painted somewhere in the school, to represent all of the school’s character and spirit.

Who knew buying donuts could do so much?

Unfortunately, with the changes in school food and nutrition policies next year, Paw’s and Peace will not be able to sell donuts next year. As of right now they are looking for alternatives to continue raising money for the school.

Rodriguez hopes to install another bike rack after seeing how often the current one is used. This one was put in after a couple students asked if there was one on campus. Rodriguez realized many students could benefit from the rack so he used the money raised from donuts to purchase and install one.
