For the 24-25 school year, students at Mehlville High School (MHS) were introduced to new assistant principal, Mrs. Sarah Gray.
Before coming to MHS, Gray started her education career teaching in an elementary school, then was a reading director and instructional coach. Little did anyone know she also works for a Racing Team!
Her husband is a technician on the engine part of the Pro Modified (PM) drag racing car. Gray was introduced to the Racing World when she was young, being from Collinsville, Ill., she would travel to Highland Speedway. Her brother raced at there, and Gray found herself cheering, supporting and enjoying the racing realm.
“I just found myself going there with my parents, cheering him on, and just overall falling in love with the race environment. I love the fans, especially the diversity of the fans,” said Gray.
Growing up she followed dirt oval racing, but also followed NASCAR. Later in life she met her husband who at the time was already working within the racing world on a drag racing team.
“When my husband was young, he started with taking out the trash, and talking to the racers, just doing random jobs but always in the racing environment. After a while he started to build engines,” said Gray.
Mr. Gray was a professor at Ranken Technical college and got to teach full time World Of Outlaw driver Joe B. Miller. Going to the track you will see Mrs. Gray around the track raising money during the races for children’s hospitals.
Mr. Gray still continues to travel with the team to help better not only the car but the team overall. While Mrs. Gray is an administrator at MHS she still plans on popping in and out to some races to do what she loves most, making everyone feel welcomed.
