Why are name brand products so much more expensive than generic items? A Lot of people will go to a store and seek a specific brand just because of the name and the reputation of that brand. Obviously the biggest difference between name brand and generic items is the price. For example if you go to your local drug store you can buy lipstick for as cheap as three dollars. But if you had a name brand in mind like Dior you would easily spend fifty dollars on one lipstick.
So what makes people want to spend so much more money on something that they could easily get for over 16 times cheaper. Americans spend an extra 44 billion dollars on buying name brand over generic products. WBRC say that this is because of customers loyalty and name brand recognition and if these are the only reasonings why does it have to be such an upscale in the first place. Companies up their product for the name and name only when you could get the same thing for a lot cheaper. The problem with this is whenever a customer sees a price increase they immediately think the more expensive brand is going to be better quality but thats not always the case. Most generic products are made to closely replicate the name brand products meaning most times they’re made out of the same things but maybe a slightly different recipe. So next time you go to the store really think about what brand of an item you buy before you spend ten times over what you really need to. Especially when it comes to silly things like a q tips maybe you can save an extra two dollars.. In the end brands upcharge way more than needed any sometimes the generic brand is they way to go.
