The annual Powderpuff game is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the student introductions at 6:15 p.m., followed by kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
The cost of admission is $2, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
For those new to Powderpuff, it is a flag football game between the Class of 2027 (juniors), and the Class of 2026 (seniors), where the guys are the coaches and cheerleaders. It usually takes place during the week before Homecoming, as it’s a Homecoming tradition.
For Mehlville, it’s more serious than just a tradition, it’s a high-stakes rivalry match, with both teams leaving it all out on the field.
Riley Agnew, a junior coach, believes the juniors will win.
“The juniors work harder, are disciplined, and have more heart. We are practicing 2-3 times a week, focusing on routes, throwing, catching, and celebrations. I think we will win 40-3,” Agnew said.
Grace Dix, senior player, believes, “The seniors are gonna win, I know it. They always do. We still need to work on our fundamentals, like throwing and running the ball.”
The seniors think it will be easy this year and according to
senior coach Jase Mayberry, “We are far more experienced, and have a great coaching staff.”
Mayberry predicts a 28-21 senior win. The seniors may win every year, but it’s always a great game to watch, especially the halftime performance from the Panther Pack as well as cheer-leading from junior guys.
Cordes and Raney were both charged with planning the whole event this year. This year, Christina Raney is in charge of the seniors, and Jackie Cordes is in charge of the juniors.
“The juniors always try the hardest, but the seniors always “win”, but everyone is a good sport, which is my favorite part,” Raney said.
When asked about who handles what responsibilities concerning Powderpuff, Cordes answered,
“Mrs. Raney meets with Senior Exec, decides shirt color and design, they handle the permission forms, and promotion. She gets referees, commentators, and spokespersons.”
Although Cordes credits Raney with all the hard work, many recognize the important contributions both women make to ensure the event runs smoothly.
Tickets are not purchased in advance. Admission is open to anyone. All students are encouraged to attend.
