Students interested in the medical field should consider joining HOSA, the Health Occupations Students of America.
This organization focuses on promoting health care initiatives, developing various skills, and networking with other HOSA members across the state and world.
Kristin Busch, HOSA Sponsor describes it as, “A completely student-run health care organization, open to any student.”
HOSA has been an organization at Mehlville since 2015, making this the 10th year of HOSA.
HOSA meets twice a month, one for the general chapter, and another for the members only competing in competitions. If you place well in your competition, you can qualify for state. This allows for students to still have time outside of HOSA, to work on school work, for their job, or even have more free time.
Every year, multiple HOSA members qualify for state, and are given the opportunity to compete with other HOSA organizations for the chance to win scholarships.
“My favorite part about HOSA is getting the opportunity to bring kids from Mehlville to state every year in January,” Busch said.
Another benefit of HOSA is networking. HOSA allows students to meet and talk to healthcare professionals, gaining valuable experience and insight into the medical field.
Students considering joining HOSA should reach out to Kristin Busch, at [email protected], or find her in room 226 or 107.
