Junior Juleon Jordan has been involved with racing for five years, and has been working at I-55 Raceway for two years.
Jordan got into racing when he was young through his family, more specifically his grandfather and his uncle. His uncle was the person who took Jordan to his first dirt race.
Despite his busy schedule with photography and other projects outside of school, he consistently makes time for racing because of how important it is to him.
Racing means quite a bit to Jordan.
“It’s all I’ve really ever known. I used to play baseball and spend my time on other things, but racing is what I’ve stuck to over the years. The people at the track took me in and they’re like family. Basically, racing is my life,” said Jordan.
Racing itself is high paced and intense, but there is a kind and loving community behind it. According to Jordan, the people at the track are inviting, and there are many people with different backgrounds. Between the diverse crowds and welcoming people, Jordan recommends the race track to anyone.
The intense atmosphere also has its challenges, physically and mentally.
“It’s physically demanding because of the constant heat, and because of how long the races last. It’s mentally demanding because no matter what’s going on, there’s a consistent looming feeling that something will go wrong and somebody will get hurt. I’ve seen it too many times,” Jordan said.
I-55 Raceway costs about $10-15 to enter on most nights, but prices vary depending on age and event. You can find more information at https://i55raceway.com/.
