Most students don’t know the importance of April 22 until they arrive to school. Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 and is a day for people around the world to get together to celebrate nature.
Earth Day’s history is rooted in 1960s activism. It all began on April 22, 1970, when 20 million people across the United States participated in rallies celebrating nature and decrying the activities that put it at risk.
Before we knew it, by 2010, Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, more than 1 billion people in numerous countries around the world were estimated to have celebrated Earth Day in some way.
Here at Mehlville, we are lucky to have a big fan of Earth day. Jacklyn Ori, Biology Teacher, says,
“It is important as a biology teacher to promote Earth Day so everyone helps in the effort to protect our world.”
To promote each year, Ori sells Earth Day shirts. This year the shirts are black with a Mehlville Green recycle logo.
Ori plans on having everyone who purchases shirts to wear them on Earth Day! The shirts are $10 and orders must be in to Ori by February 15.
Help celebrate nature at Mehlville by purchasing an Earth Day shirt! If interested contact Ori. Help your community by getting educated on environmental issues and learning how to live greener lives.
