Six years of flips, tricks, and performances.
This is what life is like for sophomore Lamia Hasic.
She has been doing gymnastics since the fourth grade.
“My mom signed me up, thinking I would enjoy it, and I did,” said Hasic.
Between school and practicing 12 hours a week, Hasic balances both and is able to do both well.
Participating in more than 30 events, Hasic has discovered her passion is mostly on bars. Even though this is her best event, her favorite memory of practice was landing a back flip on the board for the first time. Hasic is excited to learn new things, and especially mastering a new trick. She enjoys bars out of all the other gymnastics events because they come more natural to her, but that does not stop her from doing the others as well..
“I’m just really good at bars, and it’s easier,” said Hasic.
Hasic has participated in plenty of competitions herself, but she still loves to watch the sport itself.
“If I could go and watch any competition it would be the Nastia Liukin Cup,” said Hasic.
This cup is where the upper level gymnast perform. It is also sponsored by Hasic’s biggest role model, Nastia Liukin.
Watching gymnastics is how Hasic prepares herself. She enjoys watching her role models and uses their performances to help better her routines.
“I loved watching Alina Mustifina during the Olympics. She’s one of my role models,” said Hasic.
With many examples to follow, Hasic herself has won many competitions.
“One time, in Kansas I placed first in 2 events and the all around. It was so exciting,” said Hasic.
Placing first on bars and the vault is a major accomplishment for Hasic.
She plans to continue training, and participating in competitions. She hopes to get better in all the events, and learn new things along the way.
Over the next couple years Hasic hopes to learn all new flips, tricks, and performances to help her make it to the top.
