Divergent: Written by Veronica Roth, this series is about a girl named Tris Prior, who challenges the set rules for her post-apocalyptic society. In the upcoming movie, Tris is being played by Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley, along with Zoë Kravitz and Kate Winslet. The series is a best seller, and with a cast that is known for their great acting, the movie should not disappoint.
Vampire Academy: The series was written by Richelle Mead, and is focused on a young woman named Rose Hathaway who is trained to be a soldier to protect the Moroi, a royal breed of vampires. The books were hilarious and action packed, and the movie is being directed by the same man who directed Mean Girls, so the humor will definitely be a part of the movie.
The Giver: A classic book, written by Lois Lowry surrounding the life of Jonas, a boy who is chosen at the age of twelve to become the Receiver of Memories and soon realizes that the perfect world he had been living in is not as perfect as it seems. Meryl Streep and Katie Holmes both have roles in the movie, which makes the cast look great so far. Also, it will be interesting to see how the movie is filmed, considering all of the characters see in black in white for a good portion of the book.
The Maze Runner: One of my personal favorites, The Maze Runner is written by James Dashner. It begins when the main character, Thomas, wakes up in a community, with no idea how he got there and no previous memories. He then realizes that if he wants to survive, he and the other boys have to run through a dangerous maze, avoiding monsters and other creatures to try to reach the end. In the movie, Thomas is being played by Dylan O’Brian, and since the author is a writer for the screenplay, the movie should stick closely to the book.
