Don’t you love when you start watching a new T.V. show or begin to read a book and someone tells you the ending? No? Me either. Yet we still know those certain people, who for some reason, cannot hold in a spoiler to save their life.
This issue of spoilers has been around for a while, obviously. But it had never angered me personally more than when my brother came home last weekend and told me what happened at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man Two. I could see the words coming out of his mouth but I could not do a thing to stop it. Now, I refuse to see the movie all because my little brother cannot keep his mouth shut.
“You’ll never guess what happened…”
No. I will not guess, and I do not want you to tell me. Stop speaking. Do not say a word. Take your spoiler and put it back where it came from.
In my opinion, there are two kinds of people who spoil books/movies/T.V. shows: the people who do it on accident, and the people who do it on purpose.
Most of the time the people who do it on accident just don’t realize that you aren’t caught up with the plot, and genuinely want to engage in a discussion on the topic. I will also most likely forgive these people for making a mistake. The other people are the ones that you have to look out for. They’re the evil ones. The ones that you avoid if you’re reading a book and they’re ahead of you. They’re also most likely to be laughing or smiling while they ruin the story. Those are, unfortunately, the most common ones. I will never forgive these kinds of people (I am still holding a grudge against my friend for ruining the last book in the Divergent series for me, and that book was published in October of last year).
So, when it comes down to it, do not spoil things for people. I don’t care if you like them or not, spoilers should not be wished upon anyone. It is cruel and unusual punishment.
And finally, if you are one of the people who cannot take any more half hearted yells of “Spoiler Alert!” stated directly before the spoiler for whatever movie they are ruining for you, there is always an option of duct tape.
