If you like to read, and are ever looking for a book packed with Welsh mythology, drag racing, spirits, blood rituals and yes-ravens. Then Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle is the series for you. The third installment of the series, Blue Lily, Lily Blue, is the newest to addition to what is, in my opinion, a crazy good series!
The first in the trilogy, The Raven Boys, is about Blue, a non seer of the paranormal living in a house full of women who can see the paranormal. For as long as she can remember, she has been told that if she ever kisses her true love, they will die. However, casting this off as a misread prediction, Blue goes about her life, always keeping in mind to keep her distance from the snobbish rich boys at Aglionby Academy due to the fact all Raven boys cause trouble. This may seem predictable, but it is not. This is coming from an avid reader of YA fiction. I understand that a lot from YA is predictable and repetitive, but come on, have a little faith.
The second book, Dream Thieves, I found just as enjoyable, if not more so than the previous, which is not always the case with sequels in general. I cannot remember reading something more original than this. Even now, months after I have finished reading it, which makes me even more excited for Blue Lily, Lily Blue!
Maggie Stiefvater is no stranger to writing YA fiction. Some of her other written works include her faerie novels, Lament, and Ballad, the Shiver Trilogy and The Scorpio Races.
