I’m sure at one point we have all been told to put our phone down in the middle of dinner. My parents even hate if my phone sits on my lap during a meal. They really could care less that my best friend is having an emotional breakdown or that I am in the middle of a heated game of Trivia Crack. Since I am so used to having my phone no where near me while I eat dinner, it bugs me when I am out with my friends and everyone’s nose is in their phones.
Don’t get me wrong, if I am at a restaurant and my phone lights up I am going to check it. However, I do not see the need to constantly have it in my hand or sit in silence as we all scroll through our Twitter feed.
I believe our generation is losing communication skills and losing them fast. It seems rare now that someone feels more comfortable talking to someone in person than shooting them a text. I am definitely reliant on my phone much more than I should be, along with the majority of teenagers, but I know when it’s time to put my phone down and have a conversation.
Look around next time you’re out with your friends. I guarantee over half of the table will be glaring down at a lit up screen. It is an annoying fact of our generation that needs to stop now. Especially with how fast high school flies by, why would you want to waste time on your phone when you could be making memories that last forever? I promise, the world will not end if your Snapchat stories go unchecked.
My new favorite game to play when I’m out with my friends starts with everyone putting their phones in the middle. The first person to touch their phone has to pay for everyone’s dinner or dessert. Seems easy enough, right? Yeah, until you hear a buzz and no one knows who’s phone it was.
