With the Holiday season here there is a lot to be done like shopping, baking, decorating, and movie watching. One must see Christmas classic is A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Charlie Brown struggles with what would be considered the equivalent of a mid-life crisis. The need to celebrate Christmas more simply, away from the relentless commercialism of the marketing industry.
Although this Christmas special may have come out in 1965, it is still relevant in today’s society. You can’t watch TV without seeing a commercial advertising a way to make celebrating the holidays faster, more cost efficient or “bigger and better”.
Step back for a second and think of something bigger than all the commercialism. Don’t let commercials take over your Christmas. Think of all the things you like about the holidays regardless if you actually celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday.
You don’t have to unleash your inner Grinch personas, just think of all you are thankful for. Do not let the commercial life of gaudy decorations and expensive gifts consume what Christmas actually is. Be like Charlie Brown and his Christmas tree. Remember that it’s not about how nice something looks, but the feeling we get surrounded by family and friends: a sense of community and togetherness.
