Shh! You don’t want to blow our secret. Silent Night isn’t something all high schools do! Why are people dressing in their pajamas and why aren’t we cheering? Because it’s Silent Night 2015, ladies and gentlemen.
Silent Night is a fun way to support our basketball team by staying silent throughout the game. Then, once our team has scored ten points everyone starts to cheer.
“Leading up to it there’s a lot of tension and ‘Oh, I can’t wait till we score the tenth point.’ And after everyone goes crazy! You’re so pumped, you’re so happy and you’re just so excited to be there,” said Kelsie Tinnea, senior.
Come dressed as crazy as you’d like as well! Many people come in their pajamas, but just a forewarning, it becomes very hot in the gym due to the massive amount of people in attendance.
“You can wear anything crazy, anything that will draw attention to you.One rule of the Green Pit is just be quiet until the tenth point is scored because if you start talking, everyone will yell at you and that defeats the purpose of Silent Night,” said Tinnea.
Silent Night is one of the most attended games, so make sure to be there early and grab a seat for you and your friends. Some rules of the Green Pit apply throughout: seniors in the front, juniors behind them and so on and so forth.
This year the Panthers will take on the Kirkwood Pioneers on Jan. 30 and will hopefully add on another win to our Silent Night record.
