Stealing Listeners Hearts Across the Globe

by Savanna Heiney; News and Copy Editor

I+Got+A+Boy+2013    As the Korean pop artist PSY reached the ears of America’s listeners and became the most watched video on YouTube, another Korean pop group named Girls Generation released another powerful album on New Year’s Day titled “I Got a Boy”.  These singing ladies talk about just how crazy it is to love a boy and how to stay true to yourself through the lyrics of the song of their fourth album.

Girls Generation is a Korean pop group that started in 2007 through the S.M. Entertainment Company. Since then, they have released several albums which include their third album titled “The Boys” in the United States  last year. All of the members work hard to reach audiences in China, Korea, Japan, and all across the globe.  In their new single song “I Got a Boy”, the listener can follow along with their story with the interactions and girly dates with the male actor in the music video.

However, the song lasts a total of five minutes. The listener could easily walk away from the video from the constant repetition of the dub step beat melody featured in the song and the added length of the solos for each individual. Besides the length, the constant change of tempo keeps the listener engaged and makes the audience feel like dancing or rapping along with the girls.

The  combination of dub step and traditional rap or hip hop beats adds a unique touch to the song that a listener might catch themselves humming while working, driving, or hanging out with friends. With the eye-catching and fun dance moves, retro seventies and eighties leggings, and dyed hair, the American listener is hypnotized by such a diverse and cool performance.

On a scale of five stars, the song would rate as a four out of five stars. The style of the music video and song is directed more towards the American audience so, if you like dub step, rap, a creative dance routine, or just a song to get you moving then check it out.
