In the Words of Nisveta: Senior Status

photo (1)Being a second semester senior brings a lot of stress into one’s life. Don’t take my word for it, just ask around.

There are so many things to do, and so many things to avoid doing. And with the things that you avoid doing, you have to think of some major excuses to not do them.

The excuses are the worst part of being a senior.

Forgot to do that College Comp paper? It was the week before your birthday and your grandparents were in town! You haven’t seen then in 18 years!

Didn’t turn in your notebook for Senior Math? You “forgot” it at home. Or maybe your dog ate it? Or was it your sister?

Missed three homework quizzes? You were sick during those classes.  You missed multiply class because of the stomach flu. Such a shame. AND the teacher forgot that you nearly died. That’s so insensitive.

Not only does doing homework take up your time, but so does thinking of excuses for not doing it.

As a proud member of the class of 2014 I want to say that enough is enough. I am here to defeat senioritis, and I have come prepared with motivation and words of encouragement for my fellow peers.

Don’t let senioritis take you! Stop the excuses!

Tell your teachers what you need them to do for you. Tell the truth about what’s going on in your life. The mistake we all make during second semester is giving up.

Got the wrong answer on the math homework? Who cares, it’s only completion! No one looks for accuracy! It’s math homework, not your taxes. The government doesn’t care if you can’t find the slope of a line.

Don’t get yourself stuck in that hole. It’s a very easy hole to dig and step into. When it comes to getting out it’s a climb, and not like the climb that Miley Cyrus sang about for Hannah Montana. Oh no, definitely not. It’s like the climb that takes you to the summit of Everest one which consists of lack of oxygen and cold winds–mostly from you crying at high-speed because you’re borderline A-/B+.

I know it is hard trying to focus when all you can think about is waking up at 3 p.m. in your soft bed during summer, but it’ll be so much sweeter if you know you deserved it.

All I’m trying to say is that you’re so close to the end. Might as well run the last lap!

Of course it is a lot of fun to listen to people make up excuses at the drop of a hat, but it’s also nice to see a group of people be honest and say why they didn’t do their homework.

In the words of Rob Schneider, “You can do it!”
