The South County Center located in St. Louis has fallen into a decline in visitors, businesses, and atmosphere. It’s gone from being a pillar of our community to being considered one of the worst malls in America.
Recently, me and several other reporters visited the South County Mall to see the condition it’s in. Many of the businesses that were in the mall had moved out, and there were only about seven other visitors besides us.
When we asked an employee working in the food court about the state of the mall and their work, they had this to say:
“Business hasn’t been good lately, it’s hard to make decent money while the building is like this, all we hope for is the renovation to make it a better, stronger place like it once was.”
The recent decline in the mall’s performance has led to the decision for the mall to be shut down and renovated into a sports center. Although there is no set date for the mall’s closure, plans have already been announced for the renovation of the building.
Although the mall will be shutting down soon, the summer carnival is still available. The mall runs from May 8th to May 17th. On weekdays, it’s open from 5 PM to 11 PM. On weekends, the carnival is open from 12 PM to 11 PM. For more information about the carnival, see this article.
