Before a student teacher can start their career, they are first students learning and guided by experienced teachers. Mehlville High School has started incorporating student teachers in classes around the school.
Katie Garrett is a student teacher to theater arts teacher, Johanna Beck. She started observing classes last semester. When asked how she has helped her in class, Johanna Beck said, “She has been teaching acting class on her own, she has great and unique ideas when it comes to lesson plans.”
When asked what her favorite part of being a student teacher, Garrett said, “My favorite part about being a teacher is getting to share my love for theatre with students who may already love it or may have never tried it at all. Everyone has at least one thing that they enjoy in theatre and I am excited to find out what that is.”
