Erin Rekosh is a science teacher at Mehlville High School, specifically for Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Physics. But there’s more to her than most students and even staff know.
With a conservation -focused masters degree, Rekosh started her science career as a chemist, working in different labs and with various chemicals.
“I liked the every day in and out stuff, making things, running experiments, collecting data. But it was more just like I enjoyed the every day, I liked being on my feet, using my hands, doing math,” she explained.
Rekosh worked various roles as a chemist for 15 years, working mostly in analytical chemistry, but also dabbling a little in biology, before switching over to teaching.
“I had a side gig teaching dog training classes, where I taught people how to be better with their dogs and I found that I really liked teaching. I decided to move science and teaching together. I like teaching, I enjoy translating my passion,” Rekosh said.
With her years as a chemist and currently a teacher to three different courses, Rekosh has a total of 25 years in the science industry.
But aside from being a chemistry teacher, Rekosh’s hobbies consist of watching movies, knitting, growing plants, and exercising. But one hobby in particular that most people don’t know about, is that she also runs a hobby farm. On her farm, Rekosh has a mix of chickens, cats, and alpacas.
The farm isn’t the only place the family is at. Rekosh’s daughter, Sora is a senior who will be graduating this year, while her son, Isaac will be going into his freshmen year of high school here at MHS.
