Coach Cook has been teaching for 29 years. Cook works as PE teacher at Buerkle Middle School and coaches the girls Varsity basketball team for seven years. Prior to that he coached at rival Oakville High School.
“When this job reopened it felt right to be back home where I went to school. Once a panther always a panther,” said Cook.
Outside of the court Cook says he likes to be around sports even if it’s not basketball. It’s his realm.
Cook also talked about a about having a work life balance. Spending time with family is important to him. He’s entering a new chapter with wedding planning.
Cook’s job as head coach is to review games, make practice plans and talk to parents, unlike assistants who mainly work with players. Cook says he likes to stay organized with his responsibilities.
The team’s season was a winning one. The 16-10 record was a huge step up from previous years.
Another highlight for the team was making it through the first and second game of districts.
