Freshman Maleyah Morrow qualified for state as the only female wrestler on the team to move onto the next level where she ended up on the podium. Competing at this level is impressing especially since it is Morrow’s first year on the team and her first year wrestling at all.
In addition to wrestling, she participates in track and field and hopes to run cross country next fall.
This was a new experience for Morrow. She decided to try wrestling because it matched her personality the most and she ended up enjoying the challenges that came with it.
Throughout the season she learned how to overcome the mental struggle outweighing the good days with the bad. Especially after hard wins and even harder losses throughout the season she had to work on collaborating with coaches and teammates to help with this mindset.
Her teammates and coaches would say that she is a very hardworking and determined athlete. But all of it was worth it in the end, especially at the match where she qualified for districts, one of her best and most rewarding moments of the season.
Another meaningful part of Morrow’s season was all the support from her older brother Jaden who is also a wrestler.Â
“One of my favorite memories is my brother cheering on me at matches,¨ Morrow said.
She has always looked up to him, and his support during this time and all of his encouragement has helped her power through this season.
With getting sixth place at state, Morrow hopes to continue improving as an athlete and making more memories on the mat.
