Aaron Davenport, a senior at Mehlville High School, has recently committed to the Westminster College to play NCAA Division III football.
The tight end shares details about his football career during high school, life after high school and what he plans on doing in college besides football.
Davenport described a setback during the season.
“I tore my hamstring during practice, and it had scared me because I had thought my career would be over in football, but I fought through the pain and had physical therapy to help. I have gotten my way back onto the field after week six of the season and it felt good to be back,” Davenport said.
Davenport explains what he wants to work on.
“Speed, and just being in the weight room and footwork and more things that I do just to make sure my body is healthy,” Davenport said.
Football has it’s challenges, but Davenport handles the stress.
“I rely on my brothers when I’m not having my best game, and I know that my brothers got my back no matter what and we’re gonna finish together. It might not be what we wanted it to be, but we got each others’ back,” Davenport said.
Leadership and teamwork remain an important part of his approach.
“I stay motivated by keeping going, no matter what adversity we go through. I’m always there for my team, no matter what they go through I am there for my coaches, and I am always there for myself. I just like to be an older role model for my younger teammates,” Davenport said.
He looks forward to the next chapter.
“The college has people like me there that aren’t that much talkative, but when they’re ready, or focused, they immediately are activated. There is a bunch of mixed personalities around the campus , and they have great staff faculty, and they got everything it shows as a family,” said Davenport.
Davenport shared what he likes about Westminster.
“I love the community and how they can have a positive effect towards the community, there are a lot of people and a lot of different personalities, and I honestly love the decision I made with signing to Westminster,” Davenport said.
Davenport explains what else he looks forward in to college besides football.
“The other things I’m looking for besides football is a community, people that care for you, people that give help when you need it, and just people that love you for being yourself,” he said.
He plans to major in Business and add value both in the classroom and on the field.
“I am confident I am a perfect fit to this team, I’m a dog and I have the energy of a dog that is hungry for hitting people out on the field. I love football and playing with people with the same mentality, competition, and also have the same goal for the sport. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and I will put 110 percent on a new field that will now be my new home,” said Davenport.
