Tuesday, January 21st 2026, the National Honor Society held their induction ceremony for new members and are ready to do their service!
National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that is based for scholarships but also a source of service. Within these services they get very involved inside and outside of the school, helping the community all year round.
The induction for NHS is a welcoming for new members, that include guest speakers and a certificate for every member. Each member gets the opportunity to honor a teacher that is most influential in their life. These teachers can vary from kindergarten all the way to high school.
Each November NHS members gather with elementary schools and honor loved ones buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. Also later in the year they volunteer at the Hot Chocolate run.
Maddie Gutjahr, a senior in NHS, who is also the service chair, says her favorite service hour is, “Read Around Mehlville,” since members are allowed to read to elementary students.
NHS holds a few requirements to join, so if students are interested they should at least have a 3.5 unweighted GPA, and also show that they have been involved within the school and community.

“Get involved at school and in the community, it helps a lot if you can show that you’ve been involved in some leadership position,” says sponsor, Stephen Klobe.
In the NHS you get the plus of helping others and bring smiles to their faces, but also leadership skills that can benefit you in the future.
If you’re interested in joining the NHS and have any questions, reach out to Stephen Klobe at [email protected] or find him in room 224.
