Recently, Mehlville senior Irelynn Stover committed to Central Methodist University to continue playing soccer.
Central Methodist University’s athletic teams compete in the Heart of America Conference as part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Stover intends to play forward for the Eagles next August.
Stover started playing soccer at the age of seven and hasn’t stopped since.
In an interview with Stover she spoke about her inspiration that led her to playing soccer at the new level.
“My dad was my coach when I was younger, and was the one who would push me to be better. Being able to play for my dad is what made me grow love for the sport, and inspired me to play in college,” Stover said.
Stover is a three-sport athlete at Mehlville participating in soccer, volleyball and basketball.
Fighting to stay healthy has been a struggle in the past but Stover’s mind stays positive and goals remain the same.
Due to an ACL tear, Stover was sidelined from her club soccer season this fall as well as high school volleyball season. While she is rostered on the basketball team, she will cheer the team on from the bench as she continues physical therapy to recover. Stover also missed part of last basketball season due to injury.
“Knowing that I will miss out on two sports my senior year is tough, but I remain positive with the help of my family, coaches and teammates as I prepare for this upcoming season,” Stover said.
Stover looks forward to playing in college and is hopeful to return during the spring high school season for girls soccer.
