Key Club is Mehlville’s community service club that helps out the community and fellow students of the Mehlville School District.
Key Club meets on Thursdays once or twice a month for an hour. Meetings are held in the PLL room right outside of the library. Club meetings consist of discussing upcoming events and what they entail.
Some upcoming events are Reading is Fun, which is a program where high school students read to elementary school kids after school. Key Club also has a trash cleanup planned to do around the track and field.
One activity that students can recognize is the tab collection for the Ronald MacDonald House, for families whose child is in the hospital far from their home. So if you have tabs, ask one of your teachers if they have a tab collection cup.
The club’s publicity leader Corrine Gentemann shares two reasons students should consider joining the club.
“When helping out the community it makes me feel good about myself and the community,” Gentemann said.
Key Club is open to anyone, but it’s recommended to join in the fall to become an official member. Leadership roles are also available to students through Key Club.
Elia Krausz, club secretary, said, “being in a leadership position gives me insight and makes me able to hear more people’s voices relating them to my other board members.”
Kiwanis works with Key Club as a sponsor and helps them connect with the local community. Kiwanis is St. Louis County’s local community club that hosts a trivia night in January where funds are used to help out the community, like childcare centers and book distribution at Lemay.
